Mads here! No matter how long you've been a local, it's still fun to live like a tourist. We all have that one friend with the heatmap of hidden gems in their head and a camera roll full of cute corners, good coffee, and under-the-radar bites.
This summer, I'm channeling some of that βlocal touristβ energy to see this city with new eyes and treat every neighborhood like a place worth exploring! Wanna join me? Here are some of our favorite walkable areas to go on (what Iβve now deemed as) a βlocal tourist walkβ:
Malibu πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ Huge news!! The PCH is open again, so there's no better time to hit Surf Canyon at the Country Mart and walk along the beach. Or maybe snag coffee from SunLife, followed by some quality time around Point Dume? All good options.
Venice πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ A quick jaunt from the new Alanaβs Coffee location in Venice to the Canals is a no-brainer.
Santa Monica πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ Make your way across Montana for excellent coffee (thank you, Primo Passo), endless shopping, and a picturesque walk on Ocean Ave that will remind you why you moved to LA in the first place!
Brentwood πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ Good days start at the Country Mart! Grab coffee from Caffe Luxxe, and then get ready to say OMG a million times while ogling the homes north of San Vicente.
Beverly Hills πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ Fueling up on Bravo Toast's fluffiest eggs ever + walking around The Flats = feeling like a million bucks.
Studio City πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ I'd start with Yala Coffee, then make moves to meander in the neighborhood south of Ventura.
West Hollywood πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ Catch a vibe (and some coffee) at Established Today, then bounce around between Melrose and Santa Monica Boulevard for shopping and snacks.
Larchmont πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ You can start at SuΓ‘ Superette, dilly-dally in dozens of adorable artisan shops, and end your stroll playing House Hunters in oh-so-stunning Hancock Park!
Los Feliz πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ Get your steps in by taking the Fern Dell Trail all the way up to The Trails cafe!
Silver Lake πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ The LAMILL to Silver Lake Reservoir pipeline is too real.
Atwater Village πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ Get a little something sweet at Proof Bakery and then take yourself window-shopping through all of the main strip's super niche stores.
Echo Park πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ Laps around the lake never get old, IMO! If you clock in early enough, you might make it to Canyon Coffee before the line forms.
Highland Park πΆββοΈββ‘οΈ You can spend hours eating your way down York, from croissants at Fondry to coffee at Kumquat.

P.S. If you need something to listen to on your local tourist walk, might I suggest the latest episode of our Substack-exclusive podcast! We chat about Alix Earle on DWTS, the Madhappy x Salt & Straw collab, a mayonnaise phone case, where to day drink outside, and so much more.
Okay, now on to the coolest things to do in LA this week.
