Mads here! I just got back from my minimoon in Ojai (11/10 recommend for a post-wedding vacation). I ate and drank my way through this easy LA getaway, so let’s go through some of my favorite spots:
🏩 WHERE TO STAY: Ojai Valley Inn. I mean, there’s nothing better than OVI, AKA luxury at its finest. Their spa is unparalleled (with an outdoor infrared sauna!) and they offer private tennis lessons, complimentary yoga classes, and several pools to choose from. Long story short, I could wander around this drool-worthy property for hours. I dare you not to feel relaxed here!
🍽️ WHERE TO EAT:
The Oak - Whether you’re staying at the OVI or not, you must eat at The Oak. Make sure to ask for a table at the front to get an unobstructed view of the golf course during sunset and head to the firepits for s'mores after!
The Dutchess - Yep, I'm still dreaming about their morning bun. I need to go back for dinner, but their pastries are the real winners. BTW, get there early because they tend to sell out by 10 a.m.!
Rory’s Place - Safe to say this was one of the best meals of my life?! The tuna tartare basically cured my anxiety. This spot is perfect for an oyster and natty wine moment, and the martinis are A+ as well.
Rory’s Other Place - I had to stop next door for Rory’s daytime concept, (conveniently named) Rory’s Other Place. Don't miss the breakfast burrito, blueberry scone, and their viral matcha affogato (duh)!
Ojai Rotie - I love a rotisserie chicken and a good patio, and luckily, Ojai Rotie has both. Make sure to get a loaf of sourdough to take home!
Izakaya Full Moon - This teeny tiny izakaya gem had the tastiest skewers and corn tempura. Def get there early to avoid a wait!
Boccali’s - Every vacay needs a side-of-the-road Italian joint pit stop, and Boccali's was ours. You MUST order the strawberry shortcake.
Pinyon - This is a no-brainer pick for natural wine and pizza, but they’re also open for bagels and coffee with pistachio milk in the mornings.
Highly Likely - Our beloved Highly Likely from LA has a new location in Ojai! It comes with another incredible patio, perfect for a day-to-night hang.
🥂 WHERE TO DRINK:
Ojai Roots - This was one of the best wine gardens I’ve ever had the pleasure of sitting in, seriously. Grab a glass of natural wine (or two) and enjoy. They also have a cute shoppy shop attached, with local goods!
Chief’s Peak - The Ojai Rancho Inn has a lovely poolside bar with vinyl and natural wine on demand.
Ojai Vineyard Tasting Room - You can't leave wine country without stepping into a tasting room, and this one is a classic!
Majestic Oak - I know, I know, an underground wine-tasting garden sounds too fairytale-ish to be true, but I'm happy to report it was very real.
✍️ WHAT TO DO:
Ojai Olive Oil Tasting - Just a quick little drive into the mountains, and you’re in the oasis of the Ojai Olive Oil Company! A tasting comes with around 25 different olive oils and vinegars to taste test with Ojai Rotie’s bread.
Exploring - Walking around Ojai Meadows is what they mean when they say go touch grass.
Shopping - It was pretty hard not to buy every keepsake at Blue and book at Bart’s Books.
